Our Values in Action: Salish Service with Heart
Three generations of women from the same family entered The Spa at Salish Lodge one day for a Heated River Rock Massage appointment for a mother and daughter. Accompanying them was the elderly family matriarch in a wheelchair being carefully cared for, as she was unable to fully lift her head, nor was she able to speak. Her daughter asked to have her mother in the room while the service took place, and Aaron, the massage practitioner was informed of the situation. Instead of simply leaving the grandmother alone to watch, Aaron took a few of the stones, moved them down her arms, placing them in her hands and across her shoulders. Unable to speak to Aaron, the woman expressed sounds of joy. Following the treatment, Aaron approached the grandmother, opened up her hand and placed a heart shaped stone in her palm. He told her he hand picks each of the stones he uses, and he wanted her to have this special one, explaining how to warm it and use it to relieve aches and pains. The woman smiled and her eyes filled up with tears of joy. Her daughter was blown away by Aaron’s gesture. She explained that her mother had collected heart shaped stones since she was a child, and is now almost 90 years old. Needless to say, there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Aaron made magical memories that day!
