Stephen Roughley

Director of Portuguese Operations

 

A seasoned hotelier with over 25 years of experience, Stephen Roughley approaches his profession with enthusiasm, confident leadership and creative energy. Prior to joining Columbia Hospitality to oversee Portuguese operations, Stephen was part of the re-branding team and later Director of Operations for eight years at JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa.

As General Manager of The Oitavos, Columbia Hospitality's first European property, Stephen will be responsible for the strategic direction and daily operations of this dynamic resort on the West Atlantic coast of Portugal. He will play a critical role in sharing the values and mission of Columbia Hospitality with the hotel while conveying the culture and values of the Portuguese team with the company's US headquarters.

Stephen's keen understanding of the business has been built on hard work from the ground up, and has led to leadership roles at such notable hotels as the Calgary Downtown Marriott Hotel where he had the role of General Manager, Delta Bow Valley Hotel as Director of Operations and Food and Beverage Director at both Delta Meadowvale Resort and Conference Centre and the Sheraton Key Largo Resort. His early career opportunities included being an opening team member at the Four Seasons Resort Nevis and restaurant manager at the Four Seasons Inn on the Park, where his hospitality foundation began.

An advocate of a balanced scorecard, setting and reaching team member, guest, market and financial goals and objectives, each property Stephen has worked at has seen growth of revenue and profit as well as high achievement in guest satisfaction.

Stephen earned a Bachelor of Commerce, Hospitality and Tourism Management degree from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, and received advanced training at the AMPHI program at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. He is a triple citizen of England, Canada and most recently, the United States. Along with a successful hotel career, Stephen is an active member of each community he has had the privilege to reside in.
